Hey there, friends!
As I write this, I’m curled up with a cup of ginger tea and my thickest socks, soaking in a quiet moment before the year turns. I hope you’re finding a bit of space to rest and relax as we prepare to ring in 2026.
When I sat down to create this card, I knew I didn’t want it to feel like a typical New Year’s Eve party card. Instead, I was drawn to the idea of a New Year’s blessing—something hopeful, gentle, and full of meaning. Since the person I plan to give this card to loves flowers, tulips felt like the perfect choice. They’re such a beautiful symbol of new beginnings.

For this project, I pulled out the Twirling Tulips embossing folder and stencil set from Spellbinders, designed by Simon Hurley. I started by embossing a panel of Neenah 110 lb Solar White cardstock, trimmed to 5 x 7.
Then came the color! I kept the shading fairly straightforward because the vibrant inks and free-flowing design really do most of the work here. I used two ink shades per color, focusing on letting the embossing guide the blending.
- For the berry-toned tulips, I blended Altenew Puffy Heart and Purple Wine, starting with the lighter shade and adding the darker color toward the base of the flowers.
- For the orange tulips, I used Carved Pumpkin Distress Ink and Hero Arts Papaya.
- For the leaves, I chose Altenew Eucalyptus and Forest Fern.
- For the stamen, I blended Gina K Designs Sweet Corn with a very light hand.
I especially love the non-traditional look of blue-green leaves paired with warm orange flowers—it feels fresh and joyful. For the detail layers, I simply went back in with the darkest shade of each color and used a slightly heavier hand to add depth.

To finish the card, I wanted just a touch of polish, so I added a thin frame using the Waffle Flower A7 Layers Dies. I cut the frame from the center of a 5 x 7 piece of cardstock and glued it directly onto the embossed panel, using a generous amount of adhesive to make sure it adhered well to the textured surface. The finished panel was then attached to a side-folding 5 x 7 card base.
I chose to leave off a sentiment and let the vibrant colors speak for themselves on this one.
